Undergraduates who are interested in gaining valuable research experience in the area of intergroup bias are encouraged to apply for a position in the SPA Lab. Because positions are limited, applicants should clearly demonstrate academic potential in the field of psychology, be organized and detail-oriented, and must work well with others. Students who have completed Introduction to Psychology are encouraged to apply, though preference may be given to those who have successfully finished Social Psychology or a semester of Research Design and Statistical Analysis. Students may volunteer for the lab or gain course credit through Research in Psychology (PSY 395) or Independent Study (PSY 490). The weekly time commitment differs for volunteers (5-7hrs) and course-credit students (8-10hrs), but all members are expected to attend lab meetings and contribute to every phase of the research process, including: conducting literature reviews, helping with the design of experiments, and collecting data. Students who do not attend Providence College but go to school in the Rhode Island area may also inquire about the availability of volunteer-only positions.
